Hi
Does anyone know if the 1000kg side lift jack is suitable for use with the 800kg brackets on the AL-KO chassis, i.e. are they compatible with each other?
I'm looking to buy a jack on eBay and there seem to be more of the 1000kg models at better prices. The van has an MTPLM of 1500kg and so I will be using the brackets for the 800kg jack.
Hope that makes sense.

Its the shape of the jack that counts not the weight.

Yes you can save money buying a cheaper one, but remember that cost saving when its perched on the jack and your working under it.

Many years ago i bought s professional 2 ton jack and its still good today, i would happily work under a vehicle only supported by the jack. Mate bought a cheapy one from Argos and jacked up my car to test it. The jack failed and wouldnt release. Had to stick another jack under it and lower it. Still in the raised position when he returned it. Valve had just failed.

You get what you pay for, i wouldnt use a jack thats not rated for the full caravans weight+

I am astonished that anyone would consider working under any vehicle with only a jack to support it. The advice is always to use a second solid support in the form of a suitably rated axle stand

Calm down everybody.
I never suggested I was looking for some cheap, substandard jack, nor that I would work beneath the caravan unsupported.
What I'm proposing is buying the 1000kg AL-KO jack, when my caravan actually only requires the 800kg AL-KO jack. The jack would be over rated for the job, not under rated. All I would like to know is if the 1000kg jack is compatible with the 800kg brackets which are the correct ones for my 1500kg van?

I think the brackets are the same fitting.Might be worth an e-mail to Al Ko.

I think it will be fine to fit the brackets in question, you won't be lifting the entire 1500kgs, only a proportion of it at any one time. The 800 brackets are more flimsy than the 1500 ones which have additional side bracing.

Tip - Just make sure that you get the jack positioned correctly under the bracket to produce a straight lift as they are prone to bending outwards if not. Yep, got the T-shirt
