i am flying to spain for 10 days with 2 adults and 2 kids, hiring a 6 bed villa with its own pool, hiring a car, all in the may school holidays and it is only costing £300 more than my summer holiday in the vendee for ferries and campsites. that doesnt include the depreciation on the caravan, the insurance the servicing, the running costs of the car or even the fuel to get to the vendee.
That is probably right for a two/three week hol ...
However ... if you have two/three months, then a caravan really comes into its own, and is cost effective.
Following the weather ... so that you are not ruled by pre-booked accommodation ...
the ability to roam where you want, when you want, and for however long you want ...
gives you the ability to compile a user specific holiday with reduced weather etc risks.
You couldn't do that without your own 'mobile' facility for comparable prices with similar comforts.
Baileyjake don’t believe the hype my old boss imported a brand new hobby direct from Germany, put it on a seasonal pitch in north wales, it literally fell apart after 2 years.
Just because it’s German it doesn’t mean it’s better, I sell trailers that are a little longer than a Caravan’s & I can assure you German trailers fall apart as well
I think Hobby have a three year warranty period ... so if your boss's caravan fell apart after two years ... he would have been fully covered.
We have had our French Sterckeman for 3 years, now ... and it looks as good as the day we bought it ... (in Germany) ... well, better actually ... because after we bought it we discovered a fridge defect ... so they replaced the entire fridge unit, free, under warranty.
Your right but it was on a permanent pitch, he had no tow bar wasn’t really confident enough to tow so the van was delivered in & where would he take it,
The point is like cars just because it’s German it doesn’t always mean it’s better

UK Hobby dealer of which there are not many are unlikely be interested in direct owner import from Germany. Bit like buying your Bailey from discounter 200miles away then finding your local Bailey dealer don’t want to know you when it falls apart.
Caravan from any make can be bad though. It’s just a matter of luck. If you are unlucky then you probably will find how bad the after sales service is.
