Hi
We are in the process of trading in our caravan for a motorhome and we were wondering what we can take from our caravan to transfer to the motorhome.
The dealer told us to take gas bottle, but what about brand new battery, waste barrel?
Cheers
What deal did you do? I would expect a dealer to give a value just for the caravan rather than accounting for all the accessories, hookup, waste, water barrel and so on and supply the motorhome without them. Going on that I would remove everything you need for the motorhome that is not being supplied and then decide wether to let the rest go or if it's worth your time to remove and sell on.
You need to find out what the motorhome dealer is supplying by way of spares. I wouldn't expect him to supply a hook up cable for instance so I would take that from the caravan. Likewise the steps, gas bottles, water/waste carriers and any other removable items which you had to buy extra to begin with and may need to buy again if not supplied.
Unfortunately we don't have the full information here, is the motorhome new or secondhand? If its new it should come with a hook-up cable as standard. It should perhaps also have a a leisure battery where as caravans don't. It it is secondhand its a different ball game and you might need some of the stuff you have in the caravan. I think you need to discuss this with the dealer to see what his expectations are. They may prefer to have a completely empty caravan and be prepared to supply all the essential bits new to whoever buys the caravan.
Why would you leave aqua roll/wastemaster/step or hook up cable you buy those items yourself there are no part of a caravan, unless you are just starting and then dealers sometimes throw them in the price. If you leave them most dealers just sell them on also they will sell the awning on more profit for them.
Remove anything that is not part of the original manufacturers fixtures and fittings. Be aware though that if things like a bunk ladder are missing on trade in, your dealer may well deduct the price of a replacement from the part exchange price.
Definitely keep the rest of the gear, if ever you wanted to return to a caravan it will save you having to buy it all again. Also most new caravans no longer come with a hook up cable included.

I have an expensive double step so I never let that go. Aqua roll and Wastemaster you may still need, we’ve found ours useful in the motorhome. Definitely keep the electric cable - even if you get another one, two are useful. Other than that, I agree, take everything that’s not nailed down, crockery etc, because you’ll still need them. Motorhoming isn’t that much different from caravanning really.
Do as others have said, keep everything you want that isn't part of the vans original spec - when you are buying you expect a van/MH to meet its spec after all.
If you leave other stuff, the dealer may well remove and sell separately to newbies
Having said that, our new to us van had its step inside which we didn't want, but the dealer didn't really want it either as they had loads of them.... It seems to be accepted that owners retain the hook up cable though.
When we bought our caravan 2nd hand, the dealer noticed that the hook up cable had been left in the front locker, he took it out and said they couldn`t let us have it as they wouldn`t be able to say it was safe as it was 2nd hand, and that they legally had to destroy it.
So probably wouldn`t leave the hook up cable in either.
