Hi all I did a quick search which came up with nothing, so I am looking to replace the caravan tyres and wanted your advice/suggestions.
I have read that it is advised to replace the tyres with the same that was supplied by the manufacturer, is this what you all do?
Who to replace the tyres? do you use a caravan dealer or somewhere else?

I have heard of people using van tyres due to the stronger construction of the tyre but I am no expert. When mine are due they will be done at a service
If you have the handbook that came with the caravan it should tell you in there what size / rating tyres you should fit. Once you know that you can go to any tyre depot such as Kwik-Fit and ask for a quote but remember that you also need to have the wheels balanced on the rim as well. Any bounce on the caravan tyres obviously won't be detected in the towing vehicle which in turn in severe cases could loosen screws including doors hinges etc.
I always request commercial tyres as they are designed for carrying extra weight which is what you need having just one axle.
I would use a mobile fitter, that’s what your caravan dealer will do and charge you for the privilege. What you need to get are tyres with the correct load index this should be in your handbook it will be on your tyre. Finally get the tyres balanced as well.
I've used Mobile fitting - Kwik fit in the past, there are others. I have the tyres done at home. If you have Tyron fitted make sure they can deal with these. Dealers will do tyres, don't know if they will be cheaper, or dearer. Just need to give the tyre details on the sidewall to the tyre fitter to get the right tyre. The tyre size should also be in your caravan handbook.
Thanks for the replies, I know that I must replace the tyres with a similar or better rating but must I replace them with the Hankook tyres that's on or can anyone recommend an equivalent the Hankook tyres are about £130 a pair without fitting although I don't want to spare on quality I just wanted some clarification on a very vague subject, thanks again
You usually need 8 ply reinforced tyres for caravans. May I suggest you have a look at the E-Tyres website as they have an interesting webpage on caravan tyres even if you decide to buy elsewhere its worth a look.
You replace like with like as to size, load & speed rating. You don’t have to use same make though. Cheaper make will do the job. Cheapest way will be to take caravan to tyre depot providing it can take caravans.
Cheapest way will probably to buy online from tyre-shopper.co.uk which is owned by National Tyres & tyres are delivered to nearest NT depot for fitting. You will have to check you can back a caravan into their fitting bay though. Go on tyreshopper website & put your tyre size load & speed rating into tyre search & it will come up with all makes of tyre available. Here.
If you do proceed to a tyre depot with the caravan then it's important NOT to unhitch the caravan. The reason is because when they jackup the one side of the caravan to remove the wheel, there are two stability points which are the opposite wheel and the towball. If the caravan is unhitched then you are reliant on just the swivelling jockey wheel instead which incorporates the risk of the caravan slipping off the trolley jack.
The reason I say this is because many tyre fitters are not experienced with caravans (with just two wheels) especially young inexperienced tyre fitters who deal with vehicles with four wheels only which of course don't incorporate any instabilty problems. I had to advise this about 8 years ago when having caravan tyres fitted after the fitter asked me to unhitch but when I explained the risk he fully understood which he also gained some valuable knowledge for the future.
I can highly recommend etyres got excellent service from them. Came to the house and changed the tyres on the drive.

One thing they did say was they rarely get caravan tyres that need changing because the tread was worn out. Its normally because of the condition of the tyre cracks in the tread, side walls and age etc.
They gave me the choice of budget, mid range and premium brand tyres.
They booked the appointment date & time to suit me. The Fitter arrived on said time/date did an excellent job, great service
