Hi, not been on for a while, it's time to upgrade my caravan, I'm thinking about a swift conqueror 580 sal 2002 model, it's in a car sales near me, they want £4750 for it, I phoned them up to chat about it, I was told that it's had damp in the past and the side wall has been done proffessionally, but what confused me was when I asked him if the gas and electric has been tested he didn't know, surely if buying from a dealer forecourt then they should have all the safety tests done with paperwork to prove it? Also he said he damp tested it and it's reading 24 %, is that exceptable? What do these vans fetch? Any advice would be appreciated thanks
If it’s a car dealer selling a 16yr old caravan then you can be sure their knowledge of caravans will be zero. They will probably be selling it as taken in. Nothing wrong with that unless caravan is not roadworthy or has faults with appliances etc. If the dealer is selling caravan as going concern & not “spares or repair” then everything on caravan must work. Brakes, fridge & everything else or consumer law allows a full refund if you return caravan within 30days of purchase.
You can be sure though that dealer will do everything he can to avoid that scenario if you do buy caravan so best advice would be to avoid because you will get similar ‘van off ebay for much less.
There is one on gumtree right now same van £6995, thought it was quite cheap, I wonder if he will give me warranty, no harm in asking I suppose, I know what to look for as I repaired damp in my current van so I'll take a look, just concerned about the damp test readings
Seen one for 4250 and that was at a caravan dealer.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
The damp test should show the positions where the test was made and what the readings were diagram on the link shows where the readings should be taken Diagram 24 is a bit worrying, but I'd also be concerned if this was just one reading in one area.
