Hi all, just bought an Elddiss Crown Sceptre (old but gold lol) I`ve got a question, I haven`t picked it up yet, I do that in March, but does anyone have an idea where I can find out the porch awning size? I don`t want the normal sort of awning, I`m after buying a lightweight porch awning (sunncamp etc) so it would need to fit on the straight part of the awning rail and not go over the "hump" so to speak, Is this correct? or will it still work if it does go round the bend lol, the legs are not adjustable on a porch awning (fibre glass) so would not be able to compensate for the differing heights? Cheers. Rob PS: Wish me luck in March, going all the way to scotland to pick it up from Northampton!!

Hi Homebird
Would the 320 also fit do you think?, I`m just a bit sceptical that the 260 will have enough room when we are out with the Grandkids, the van I am collecting in March comes complete with a 260 which will be ok for just 2 of us so I suppose I`ll have to wait and measure up properly once I`ve picked it up, I`m like a kid at Christmas lol can`t wait

We tried a 300 which was ok but if I remember rightly went part way over the kitchen window so it wasn't flush. I agree that its probably best to wait until you can measure up.
If it's an old caravan with a boat shaped roof then you are not going to be able to use a porch awning on it. The reason is because there is a minimum height required for a porch awning and a caravan with a boat roof is too low. When these type of caravans were manufactured they only ever made full awnings until the flat roof caravan was invented giving it more height which a porch was then an option.
Hi Tango
No its 1997 model "flat top" so to speak, as I`ve said, the guy who sold it to me uses a Sunncamp 260 porch awning, but think I`ll be needing something bigger, as in a Sunncamp 325 when Grandkids are with us and keep the 260 when just 2 of us

Now that we know that it's not a boat type roof, does the roof go straight along from the back so far then has a slope towards the front end?
If so can you confirm whether the Elddis is a two or four berth caravan as the body will differ in length.
I`d post a pic of the van if it wasn`t too much faff! The van is a 5 berth with 2 separate sleeping areas, one in lounge area and one to the rear with double bed and a bunk, the roof does slope down from approx 2/3rds of way towards the front, I have asked the guy I`ve bought it off ( Forces biker friend) but he is currently in Stafford and won`t be back in Scotland till mid March so can`t measure up, he uses a sunncamp porch awning (260) that may be ok for just me and the missus, but I`ll need summat bigger with the grandkids and a porch awning with fibre glass poles which don`t adjust needs to be on a level/straight part of the awning rail methinks.

Okay, so really you need to do some measuring up first to see how long the straight part is from the rear end because if the awning roof starts to go down the slope then you will have problems with pooling on the roof in heavy rain merely because the awning side becomes slack at the front end and can't be tensioned identically to the back. I'm limited to a 260 porch awning because of this very reason but there are also other things that you have to consider as well such as checking if the awning is going to restrict access to a toilet service door or side storage service door or the side window. If the awning falls directly in front of a window you are not going to be able to shut a draught out because of the contour of the window and even if you do, it can scratch the window if the pole moves sideways to and fro in windy conditions. If you are condidering a Sunncamp porch awning I think they come in 3 different lengths which are 260, 330 and 390 so you have to measure from the door and then measure along 330 then 390 to see which fits best.

I`ve managed to get a pic in my gallery for info
It's a pity that the photo wasn't of the other side where the awning is going to fit as you can then see if there are any obstacles other than the window.
Tango, uploaded the only other pic I`ve got of the van from outside, it shows the door side of van, I didn`t really think about restriction ref windows etc, looking at the pic and taking this into account, I could be restricted also to 260, ah well, thanks for all the comments, i will keep you all informed on progress (or lack of lol) once Ive picked the van up (She`s called Dottie by the way) my good lady wifes idea
