Having camped forca few years, now looking to progress to a caravan. To get prepared I'd like to join one of the two main clubs Caravan & Camping or Caravan & Motorhome.
Other than cost what are the pros and cons of the clubs
One of the reasons we joined the Caravan and Motorhome rather than the Camping and Caravanning Club, is that you pick your own pitch rather than being told where you have to pitch.
Join them both, then after a year make your mind up and cancel the one you do not like. I am in both mainly for the 5van sites CL/CS's however the C&CC run Temporary Holiday Sites which we use a lot, in various locations around the country, they run from 7 - 28 nights, cheap (£8 - £11 a night), no booking (a few you have to), so with us we go off when we want, come back home when we want and have more outings.
Sports club at York July £8 a night, on cycle path, 25min walk into the city, local shops and bar at sports club.

We are members of the Camping & Caravan Club, and we have always had a choice of pitches. Sometimes suggestions have been made, but we have never been made to feel that it was compulsory.
We belong to both as it gives us more choice of pitches and places. The bit about not being able to choose your own pitch on a C&CC site is a bit misleading as you are usually given a choice whilst in conversation with the site manager.

David
Maybe things have changed .. it's a few years since I've stayed on one and that's how I remember them.
I think it's just a matter of personal preference. I am happy with the C&CC, others may prefer the CaMC, and others will go with neither.
Sometimes we use C&CC sites, sometimes CSs, sometimes private sites, whichever suits us best depending on where we want to go. No definitive or right or wrong answer.
We’re in both clubs too, because of our favourite sites, one is a C&CC site and the other is a C&MC site. We also often use the small 5 pitch sites from both clubs. We have booked holidays abroad / ferry crossings through both sites over the years, and also had caravan insurance and breakdown cover with them both, currently with the C&MC.
As others have said, maybe try both and see which (if any) you prefer.
If you are camping, then the ccc because they have more sites for tents, both clubs have excellent sites and both offer excellent insurance and breakdown cover.
If you are having a caravan then join both for 1 year, then choose
We are in both but mainly use CMC sites. We only use one C&CC site each year for about 10 nights so the membership fee is worth it just for that. If the CMC had a site in that area, we probably wouldn't bother with the C&CC but it really is personal preference.
I know that all sites are different but I think as a general rule, CMC sites have more hard standing pitches whereas C&CC sites have more of a mix of hard standing and grass pitches so if you have a preference for pitch type, that might be a deciding factor.
I would agree with the advice to join both, use both as much as you can in the first year and then cancel your membership on the one you like least for future years.
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
We used both side by side for a year and finally chose CAMC for the simple reason their club sites were adjustable temp and on/off showers, not push button like C&CC.

Not necessarily so. We haven't used a CC (CaMC) site for over 40 years, but C&CC sites vary, that I do know. Some have push button showers and some don't. Can't remember which now as we don't usually take that much notice.
We are in both. They offer a consistent standard of facilities and are reasonably quiet. Not much to choose between two clubs in my opinion. Stayed in both to get bigger choice of sites.
