I have a caravan stored in France and wish to insure it. I have tried various companies including the Caravan Club, Caravan Guard and Towergate but none will insure a van stored in France. I'm looking fir any recommendations fir companies which deal with storage away from the UK.

Possibly need to look at companies in France, but you may get catch 22 when they wont cover you because your not a resident in France.

We store in France and insure with Towergate, renewed in March this year. They do check out where it is stored though and have to approve it, so maybe that is the issue?

Yes, we do Towergate as well.

One issue ... which has been raised on the Camping Abroad Forum ... if you store permanently in France you are supposed to have your van registered in France (legally) ... and French no plates etc ... which would imply insurance by a French company ...

Most of us don't ... we still have our UK reg plates (same as the car we tow with) ... Towergate are, clearly, well aware of the situation ...

However ... I don't think anyone has tested what happens in case of an accident, and how the French police would proceed.

I wrote to the French licensing office seeking clarification ... never received a response ... I've kept a copy of the e-mail I sent.
