When I took delivery of my Elddis Crusader In 2015, I sent my full awning to Isabella make it larger, as the Crusader had an awning length of 10.8m
I am now shortly due to take delivery of my new van, a Swift Elegamce 645 which appears to have an awning length of 10.46m.
As I only use the full awning once a year for the main summer holiday it is still in as new condition , so I don’t want to replace it yet.
Does anyone know if the tolerance allowed would make it too long to tension if I used it as is , or should I send it for alteration again?
As the difference is only just over a foot in real money you will in all probability be OK with it.
I certainly wouldn`t even consider selling or altering it before I`d tried it out.
Many awnings are sold covering a range (i.e 950-975), so its just like having a 1050-1075 awning really.
I would try it on the new caravan to see what the fit is like. What you can do is rather than peg the side vertically straight, you can angle it outwards which should allow a slightly larger awning to still work.
the problem isn't just the extra length of fabric, its also n the inside, the beading that takes the pads for the poles will be 6 inches lower on each side due to the extra length of roof fabric, so you are going to have to change the ends of the poles to suckers if you want it to work
the other thing you can do is to raise the whole caravan on both sides giving it a bit more ground clearance,
I called Isabella today and spoke to a very helpful person there who said it would need shortening to fit correctly as it is more than an awning size to big.
I am going to send it to them for alteration, when they altered it before to make it larger they did a fantastic job .
My thoughts would be to get it altered, you are buying a beautiful new caravan, a well fitting Isabella look just the part! The difference in sizes you have now, is too much to look good.
