I have a 2015 Lunar Clubman SI. When bought new I found about 8 handles where the chrome coating had blistered. This season has now started and I note that about 12 more have done the same. I have cut fingers to prove it! Lunar no longer supply these handles and suggest I replace them with the latest type. The cost for 12 of the originals was about £53. There are 31 handles in this van so I dread to think how much this will cost me. Has anyone else had this problem and if so did they manage to find a cheaper alternative ? I wont say what I think of Lunar quality.
Hi, I would remove them sand them down and spray with an aerosol car paint either a suitable colour, or if you want chrome effect the are some very good car wheel paints. Failing that search for cupboard/drawer handles on line and may find some similar.
Well, I changed my front seat locker handles on my 2016 524 because I got fed up of banging my heels and ankles on the very prominent sharp cornered ones Lunar fitted! Never heard of 'Ergonomics' Lunar!!!!! Clearly NOT, definitely style over function at work!
They were 'standard' 160mm fixing centres, so I just bought some more ergonomic handles from Toolstation at under £3 each. The old ones simply unscrew and the new one fit without any modifications to door or handle. Same handles throughout van, I could change them all if I wished, but the new ones on the underseat lockers are hardly noticeable so didn't bother.
Handles are widely available from most DIY outlets, you have quite a choice at between £2 - £3 each, much cheaper and no doubt better quality, mine were solid stainless steel, than Lunar are trying to rip you off with. Measure your fixing centres before buying replacements - they come in a number of different fixing centres! Keep the old ones safe (somewhere dry, and well wrapped up) and you can easily return van to original spec when you sell if you wish.
As to the chrome finish, yes some of mine have 'pits' and a rough surface developing. I did swap a couple of the now spare removed handles for ones fitted in the bathroom as they were the worst pitted. It's due to poor quality plating letting moisture get to the underlying alloy casting, which corrodes and lifts the plating off.

It's not Lunar quality they are made by a contractor.
By the way it was the same on our 2017 Coachman VIP, a known issue.
I found it easier to trade the van in.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!

Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.

Yours isn’t a one off some of ours have done it too on a 2016 model.

That’s a great suggestion from Albee, and exactly what I’d do.
A can of silver wheel paint will cost all of £1 at Poundland and it is good stuff. I resprayed some bathroom shower internals which had discoloured and they look as good as new, a year on.
Don’t spend a fortune on handles. It’s not worth it
