Hi. A question for those who use a caravan cover in winter. I Changed caravans earlier this year to a bigger and a bit newer one which has a Status 315 aerial fitted plus a chimney flue. My question is how do you fit a caravan cover over these for winter storage?? Do you take the whole aerial off and cap it or just the spike or just the dome & spike, which I know has 2 screws fixing it on. also the chimney flue, cant see that it collapse inward or comes off so do you make a protective cover for it before fitting the cover?

Hello Rose & Max,

Don't bother taking the whole aerial off, just the spike.

The flue will be fine left on as well.

When we fit our cover, we make sure that the caravan is deliberately not level front to back, so that the water will run off. We also bought two cheap footballs which we put between the cover and the roof so that the water can't get trapped on the roof.

take the spike off and get two cheap footballs - or pieces of foam. place one either Side of the aerial to support the cover. We use a large dust sheet over ours inside the workshop over winter and use the ''football'' method ....

Hi ours is a made for model cover and has extra fabric allowed for the Ariel.

Thanks for your suggestions. Looks like it might be footballs then, not thought of that. I'll give it a try.
Someone did suggest an upturned hanging basket for the aerial and a cut off coke battle for the flue but the footballs sound a better option. Thanks

I usually find the best way to fit the footballs is to fit the cover first, but not the straps. Then open the door flap in the cover and you should then be able to lift the cover and insert the footballs between the cover and the caravan and push them into the centre with a broom handle.

If you try to place the balls on the roof first you will likely find the cover pushes them off as you pull it over.
