Well the mystery of our intermittently smelly Dometic fridge continues. I have had a really good look for the drain hole which up to now I hadn’t been able to find.
I’ve now located it and am looking for something suitable to poke down it to ensure it is not blocked. I need to defrost the fridge and I don’t want a flood on the caravan floor as there is quite a build up of ice on the aluminium fins at the back.
What do people use to poke theirs? Initial thoughts were a welding rod as I want something sufficiently rigid so as to be able to push any foreign bodies out but bendy enough to allow it to adapt to the contours of the orifice.
I used a guitar string of an acoustic guitar, the thickest i could find. You dont have to buy a set as their sold in singles.Local music shop is your best bet
All sorted now thanks Jeff - used the cold steel - they don’t like it up ‘em!!! It transpired that a skewer for holding meat for kebabs was just the right diameter and length.
Its the angle of dangle, not to mention the tension!
The offending orifice was indeed blocked however following intervention with a skewer yesterday clarity has been achieved!!
We had a similar problem. We unscrewed the top from a spray cleaning bottle and poked the tube down the hole. Cleared it very well, and not as potentially damaging as a skewer!
