I would like to fit a Fiamm type awning to my Coachman 545 VIP

The type in a case that is a permanent fixture like on a motor home - not the type that fits in the awning rail in a bag.

I can not get any proper information other than they may be too heavy for a caravan.

Has anyone done this or you ideas please ?

Not sure about the weight thing, but the fixing may prove contentious. You would need to fix it on the edge of your roof somehow. I doubt you would get it on the side. Motorhomes are taller than caravans. I know some panel vans have them, but they dont have stuff in the way like awning lights and rails on the side of the van. I wouldnt fancy drilling holes in my roof if i'm honest.

We have a Fiamma F45S fitted to our Sterckeman caravan ... had it fitted when we bought the van in Germany four years ago.

It works perfectly ... is bolted to the side of the van and winds in and out to a solid case.

Does it stop short of the door. Or is there room above? Thats the best way to have them fit - by the manufacturer at the outset.

It overlaps the door ... goes full length of the van, up to where the curvature begins at each end.
The front support 'legs' can be adjusted so that the opening door clears the awning easily enough.

Was fitted by the caravan dealer we bought it from ... it was a six month old van, so not purchased from the manufacturer.
