Looking for some advice 😊 I was very kindly gifted a elddis 2 berth caravan. I am new to caravaning but a caravan renovation is something I have wanted to do for a while. The kitchen had been removed from the van as it was going to be turned into a bar. I wanted to renovate the caravan to turn it into a little family van but wasn’t planning on putting a kitchen back in. Today I noticed a gap in the van and was going to get some
Expanding foam and reseal etc. would not having the kitchen in make the van unsafe to tow due to weight distribution? Will the gap be unable to repair due to the removal of the kitchen ? All advice is much appreciated. TIA
i wouldnt like to be fixing that, as you also have the side walls to be done too, and thats after stripping off the awning channel and resealing that, the window seals arent cheap and that needs replacing, i would say youve got a good £400 of work to be done and thats doing a diy job aand that is before you even begin to think about putting a kitchen back in place
It looks pretty riddled with damp. Probably wood frame has rotted. It would be a major repair job & you would still have no kitchen. To do a worthwhile job you would need to strip out all the rotted wood & replace with new. Do you think it is worth it ? With the removal of fridge & cooker plenty of weight has been removed from rear which may make caravan too heavy at front when towing.
They say you shouldn’t look a gift horse in the mouth. I’d say the previous owners are breathing a sigh of relief that they disposed of the caravan so easily.
Good luck with that project, I think you’ll need to channel your inner George Clark to make an amazing space.
Before you do anything else you need to get a damp meter to find the extent of the damp. The caravan will need resealing from the outside. A proper job will involve removal of exterior aluminium strip & resealing but if the wood behind the strip is rotten there will be nothing to screw into.
