I suspect the 12v master switch is off? The reason you get 12v when plugged into the mains is that it is supplied via a transformer built into the electrical control panel. If you give us details of your unit, make/model/year you might get a more comprehensive answer.
Thanks for getting in touch it’s an Avondale Rialto 550 I have checked all fuses in master box and any others I found l don’t know if the charger is at fault or something else
Thanks
I know its a really stupid question, but you do have a working 12 volt battery fitted? (I`ve seen a post in the distant past with the same question where there wasn`t one fitted)
or the battery that is fitted is beyond its useful life! and needs replacing, after that i would be checking the charger to see first of all if its turned on and then putting power out to the battery

The charger must be working as it is that which is powering the 12 volt system when plugged into the mains. Whether it is putting power into the leisure battery is another matter. It could be that the battery is missing or defective, or that there is no circuit to it. That could be because a fuse has blown or a battery master switch is turned off. I would start by checking the leisure battery (assuming one is fitted) with a multimeter, NOT the meter fitted in the caravan if there is one.
Sounds like you have a fault either your batter or fuse has blown on the battery circuit. When you have the van on mains supply, it has a transformer that charges your battery but also can supply your van with 12 volt, which is why it could be working off mains but not your battery.
Hope this helps.
I think I would test your batter first, then go from there.
The simple answer is that the 12 volt circuit is powered by the leisure battery and the 240 volt mains is a separate circuit altogether. So, if there's no 12 volt power then the problem is linked to the a either a missing or defective battery.

Thanks for the replies but it has a brand new tested battery l think it might be a fuse or relay as there is just no 12v without 240
There is often an inline master battery fuse separate from the main fuses. On my caravan it was right next to the battery box under the front seat, and there was serious corrosion inside the fuse-holder. To save me carrying spare fuses I have replaced it with a 12 volt DC circuit breaker.
