Just arrived at our caravan for the New Year. A very large wasp was flying about inside. I noticed a couple last time we were here but thought nothing about it thinking they had come in from outside. My thinking now is we have a nest somewhere in the caravan and putting the heating on has 'woken' them up. Not sure how to tackle it. And is this usual for December? Thanks
more likely to have made its way inside from the underneath drop out vents. if you have something you can use to cover them temporarily and then open all cupboards etc and spray everywhere a tin of wasp spray and shut the caravan for an hr or so that ill get rid of them oh and put your heating on as high a temp as you can and that will remove them from the pipework
I think this is the Queen wasp. She’s looking for somewhere to stay over winter on her own. Or she may have woken up because it’s been mild or the heating has gone on. I’d be very surprised if there was a byke (wasp nest) nearby as I think they all die at the end of summer.
But although wasps do a lot of good, I prefer them doing good elsewhere and I kill the Queen as cleanly as I can. We get one in the house every year.

Thanks Fiona. We managed to get it outside. Now I'm worried she finds her way back in
Once outside it probably won't last very long. The cold overnight will almost certainly kill it. I don't think they can survive in temperatures much lower than about 5C to 10C.
