We are buying a 2013 Sterling Eccles Topaz and was wondering if anyone knows the dimensions of the battery box. I have a 110 ah battery size 190H x175W x354L. Just want to know if it will fit. I've rang the dealer and just got a reply of its a standard size? Thanks in Advance. Mark
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
I can’t be of specific help but we used to have a Bailey and changed to a Swift and the Battery boxes were very different sizes. I don’t think there is a standard size that is standard between manufacturers.
I think you will find that most caravan battery compartments on modern caravans are identical in width and depth but the it's the height that may differ which was more likely to be the case on earlier caravans manufactured in the early 90's. If the dealer said that the battery compartment is a standard size then it should be able to accommodate any size leisure battery up to 110 ah.
Both batteries and boxes vary in size, there are 'standards' for batteries, but a number of variations like standard and low profile variants do exist, and products from different manufactures can vary by quite a few millimetres, boxes vary with manufacturer it seems, but no formal standard sizes as such, certainly most later caravans seem to be able to take a 100Ah battery.
My 2016 Lunar has a 100Ah battery which is a snug fit, and I know 'some' 110Ah ones won't fit in the box!
Only certainty seems to be to measure the box and compare with battery dimensions. Don't forget and make allowances for, the battery should be in a leak proof tray to contain any acid leakage (although many don't bother - but risk leakage reaching caravan skin and damaging it, ESPECIALLY Aluminium skins!), and clearance space for terminals on top, they often stand proud of the battery terminal posts/lugs.
Thanks for the replies, I will just take the battery with me and if it doesn't fit buy a smaller one. I think the dealer wants me to buy one of their batteries, but I've seen them a lot cheaper locally. Mark.
