hi,
just received a newsletter from c&mhc, because ive booked a club site for this year, that they are putting the price up, because of the energy price increaces, by, 75 pence, up to £2:50 per night depending on season, thats after weve allready booked, ok fair enough, just letting people know to expect price rises
Be interesting to see how they divvy the extra charges out. In its most simple form you would imagine there would be one price for the sites without toilet blocks and another price for sites with. Maybe also with a summer/winter variation? The email was a bit vague as to how it will work specifically. Is someone on a more expensive site going to use more electricity than someone on a basic site?
If they just installed a payment meter for each hook up point they could eliminate the need to administer it on a seasonal basis so you just pay for what you use whatever time of the year it is.

Got the same email, and still wondering exactly how much more it's going to cost me for my Nov booking! Blathered on about average costs for two adults, well I've only booked a single adult, so does that mean my increase will be less than for two or more people? - Not holding my breath!
70p per night sounds far more reasonable than £2.50 for realistic usage, we've all suffered the 50% power cost rise that CAMC stated, but £2.50 sounds like a opportunistic price hike rather than just cost covering as a significant percentage of overall pitch fee!
if you've still got your orginal booking confirmation, your original price will be on there and if you log on and go to your bookings the updated price should be there. We're off to Coniston May and that's gone up by £4 for 3 nights I believe.
So far as I can see, it's not just about campers' usage of electricity. Increase in fuel costs affect all other aspects of running a site, from fuel for the mowers to the electricity used to run the tills.

The email says you will be able to see the increase from the 5th of April
Caravanning aint cheap. Some people look upon it as cheap holidays, but not anymore. With many vans easily 20k, thats a few decent hotel breaks at a stroke. Then theres all the rest on top. Anyone whos booked an airyplane for the summer will be getting more than £2.50 slapped on top!

It doesn't have to be that expensive though Mick. Our caravan didn't cost us £2k, never mind £20k, and this will be our 5th year with it. It certainly doesn't owe us anything.
Unless you go for all-singing, all-dancing holiday parks, sites don't have to be ultra expensive either. I agree it isn't the cheap holiday it once was though, especially for families. Must admit if things were as they are today when we first started we would probably never have got into camping or caravanning. As a family of 5 with 2 dogs it was cheap compared to any other sort of holiday. Sites back then just charged for a pitch regardless of how many people there were, so our family with a caravan paid the same price as a single person with a small tent.

With respect, you are at the other end of the scale Colin. Loads of people have expensive vans, and go to expensive sites - mainly for the kids. I, personally, am a lot nearer you than that end. My van is a tad moderner , but didnt cost double figures (though its worth a lot more than i paid). And the thought of being within earshot of hoards of families - well, if thats all that was available, id be done with camping. But when you weigh up some of the cheap flights/hols abroad, i dont believe the 'higher end' folks are saving a ha'penny nowadays.
