Hi, i have searched the forum here as well as others and cannot see a definitive answer to my problem. Like many who have the ultrastore water heater, they find that the nonreturn valve has either stuck open or has failed. Upon checking my system for the reason of the ultrastore emptying back into the Aquaroll. I can't seem to see a nonreturn valve on my system. I have attached pictures of my setup, if someone can confirm if i have a nonreturn valve and if not where should i fit one. I have replaced the electric heater due to the previous one being corroded (possibly from being on with no water).
The caravan is a 2001 ABI Sprinter 450CT

Thanks Joe

Hi Joe, in the centre of your picture, down a bit is what looks like a yellow toggle lever fitted to the blue pipe. If this is the same as the vans I've owned this is a drain valve, when the system is in use it should be facing down, IE in line with the pipe, not sitting upright. When it is upright it drains the system down. Sorry if you already know this.

Unless theres an NRV in the boiler, i dont think there is one in the pipe runs? So you are saying the water is reversing back down the pump tube into the barrel? I would have thought to be able to do this, there would have to be air getting in to allow it to back-syphon. Otherwise its airlocked. This sounds like a 'problem' ive personally never heard of before.

Hi Joe amd welcome to the forum. I don't see an on-board water pump so it's not inside there like on mine, therefore I assume it is the one in the aquaroll type. In that case I would be having a very close look at the fitting in the wall where the water comes into the van, there can be a non-return valve in there as part of the assembly. A small piece of detritis can get stuck in the flap and prevent it totally closing, you can often feel the pipe is warm as it syphons back from the heater.

Dave.

Could well be the inlet fitting on your exterior wall. I had a non return valve fail on one caravan and had to replace the wall fitting. Easy job to do.

Having just done a quick search of the water inlet (Whale ES1000) i see they do a service kit which has a "NRV" consisting of a piece of rubner that re-seats once the external pump has stopped pumping. I shall look into this and update.

It's quite a complex box of tricks doing the water inlet, plus power to the pump, pressure switck and non-return valve functions.

From memory it looks like the unit we had in our Conway folding camper, it had the same trouble whilst in France. Our dealer talked me through dismantling it from the rear and removing a little bit of plastic detritus from the valve.

Abit of an update to this, bought the service kit AK8834, then upon removing the center of the socket i noticed that where the "NRV" sits the actual web it sits in had perished making the valve not sit flush. Have ordered a new socket and hopefully should be problem solved.

Thanks

Well done Joe and thanks for the update, it sounds like you have nailed the problem.
