Definitely no gas bottle needed to get water. You will need one to get HOT water though.

Have you filled the system with water and got water running through the taps?
Are you running on gas or 230v?

If you are new to caravans it would be a good idea to get a copy of the Haynes Caravan Handbook which will explain how everything works.

Basically this is how the water system works:
Fill the aquaroll, fit the pump into the aquaroll and plug it in to the socket on the outside of the caravan.
Switch on the 12volt system, you'll need a fully charged leisure battery fitted, and turn on the taps. There should be a switch for the pump on the control panel so switch this on before you forget it. Turn on a tap and you should hear the pump working and the water will start to flow, it will take a while to fill the water heater and pump through the whole system.
The system will be full of air to start with and you will have to go round every tap to bleed the air through.
When all the taps are supplying water without splurging the system will be ready for use.
You can now switch the water heater on if you wish, you will need gas or 230v for this.

Has this caravan been serviced recently?
If it hasn't it would be a good idea to get it serviced for safety reasons. If you have it serviced by a mobile engineer they'll be able to explain how everything works.

I'm sure I've missed something out of my instructions but it should get you started on the right track.

Good luck.
Rob
