We arrived at a new site on Thursday with our caravan (never been before, in France as it happens but could happen anywhere), wandered round in the hot sun looking for a pitch (plenty to choose from), finally agreed on one, levelled up with the lock 'n level, set up, put awning up etc. etc. all in 29° heat.
The pitch was surrounded by high hedges, on a bit of a slope and was spacious, but not your usual straightforward rectangular shape! We thought it would be ideal for the dogs, being almost fully enclosed, and that the hedges would provide us with shade. However, once we were in and set up, we realised that the remaining space didn't work for us - we couldn't find a flat place to set up our table and chairs, the hedges, instead of providing the shade we'd hoped, just seemed to hold the heat in and made it quite oppressive, and the only view we had was of the car, caravan, awning or dense laurel hedges!
Anyway, neither of us admitted to the other that we weren't happy 'till the following morning - after all, we had chosen that pitch (though goodness knows why!) - so it was either stick it out for another day and move on, or try another pitch.
As we were happy with the site in general and the surroundings, and had been intending to stay for several nights, in spite of not being keen to dismantle everything and then set it all up again (to say the least), we went for the pitch move.
This time we chose a flat, oblong pitch, with low hedging, a tree that provides shade to sit under all day and shade onto the van in the afternoon, with open views in all directions. What a difference! We feel really happy and comfortable here now, and are enjoying just sitting out on the pitch reading etc, when we're on site.
I couldn't have believed what a difference being on the 'right' pitch makes! Hopefully lesson learnt for the future - though I wouldn't count on it!

Good job you realised it early and chamged it.

I rememer once, not that long after we were married, we stayed in a nice hotel overlooking lake Windermere, for some strange reason we were in the opposite side of the double bed to normal and couldn't sleep. Neither wanted to wake the other but didn't reallise they were awake too. It's funny how little things can make such a difference.
