Has anyone had the problem with the strip on elddis roof. We've had it resealed and renewed numerous times but the undulating nature of the roof panel dislodged the sealant ,which also hardens in the extreme continental heat.
in that case who ever has done the reseal has used the wrong product in the wrong way. the metal strip needs to be 100% clean of the old mastic and then also totally clean on the caravan and using none setting mastic on a roll replaced with that, you get one chance at putting that stuff on correctly so be carefull
I totally agree. Use the right sealant for the job. A roll of it isn't expensive and it will work. Take the strip off. Thoroughly clean any old sealant off the roof panel and the cover strip. Abit of elbow grease but it will work. God knows what sealant was used who ever did the last job. Have fun.
Because bathroom sealant is waterproof, some people think that it will do the job on caravan joints mainly to cut down on costs. The two applications are entirely different as the bathroom sealant is for internal applications and the correct caravan sealant is for outdoor applications which is a non setting mastic that is designed to deal with outdoor temperatures which involves expansion and contraction. Bathroom sealant is most likely what has been used for the repair but with either applications both surfaces need to be 100% clean to obtain a permanent bonding. Done correctly and the roof strip should be a permanent fix for many future years to come.
It has been resealed over the years by different caravan dealer/repair shops so think the correct sealant is used. Because the roof isn't flat but rippled,the strip doesn't seem to bed down properly nomatter what they do,as the strip is rigid.

one would like to think that a caravan dealer would use the correct products and methods when doing this type of repair, but this is something you can take for granted. the rippled roof has nothing to do with the repair being ineffective, it is simply down to the lack of doing the job correctly with the correct materials. if they had cleaned the roof properly then applied the mastic from the roll on the roof and then cleaned the strip of any remaining sealant/grease and then applied that you could just about lift the caravan up by the strip and the stuff would still grip like Sh5T!
It is in the dealer's interest to do any job as cheaply and quickly as possible. Using the wrong product and method in order to achieve that will work temporarily, so unless it fails quickly you have little or no comeback. Sorry, but I don't have much trust in many such businesses today. Bodging seems to be too much in evidence.
