The pole goes up the side through the front and down the other side. Very often porch poles have to be bought as an extra like this https://www.4adventurers.co.uk/universal-canopy-pole-set-200cm-kampa

As for the roof ridge pole - there should be a couple of very small pockets about a cm or so, (one at the caravan awning rail and one oposite where the awning pole is) which the roof pole fits in to.
