We have a pioneer radio in our caravan it’s not in a cupboard it’s on the outside . The screen does not turn off so it’s bright red in the night I cover it with a post card . I have read everything but it does not turn off.
Also we dont have a CD player on it . I like cds and audio tapes . I am thinking of getting a replacement .
Any ideas of what to get and how easy is it to change. How much it might cost . It is only 2 years old .
plenty in the likes of halfords or argos to choose from, i would however be fitting a master switch so you can make sure it turned off properly (no lights to disturb sleep) fitting a new set is no different than one used in a car and easy to do

That's very unusual, and makes me wonder if it is incorrectly wired.
We have a Pioneer radio in our caravan and when we turn it off it goes off completely. It also has a CD slot and a USB slot, so we have most of our music on USB sticks. I installed the radio myself, as the caravan didn't have one because it is really old. It wasn't that difficult even starting from scratch, so changing one should be much easier. The radio wasn't that expensive either, about £25 if I remember right. It's been in there about 4 years now and it works great.
bear in mind that if you opt for a car type radio, that most modern ones have a code input, so every time you disconnect the van battery , the code will have to be re- input to allow it to work., caravan radios dont need a code, or at least ours doesnt.

I've got a Pioneer Radio/CD as standard fitment in my van, the red backlight on facia of that is always on! The digital display goes off when 'switched off' but general backlight stays on. It does have a removable facia (security feature) which is only way of killing the light that I've found, apart from the fact that it's in a cupboard so can shut door to cover it. I never use it as reception/channel tuning is awful, so facia is never on it!

You set me thinking there Monty, and I realised that I wired one feed through a switch so that it acts like the ignition switch in a car. That is how we usually switch it on and off, which is probably why there are no lights on at all when it is switched off. There is another feed to the radio though which is permanently live, as long as the leisure battery is connected. This keeps all the radio settings. Of course we have to reset the radio stations when we get on a site as they would be different to where we last were.
This is my setup. Sony car radio, cassette player and 6 cd changer. I've fitted a switch on the 12v positive feed to cut 12 volts off to the unit when the caravan is not in use. I've fitted into a overhead cupboard so the display lights doesn't disturb sleep.

my pioneer has two kinds of off.. a short press puts it in stand bye mode and a longer press turns it fully off... no lights..

Never thought to try that I must admit, I just turn it off by the external switch that I put in when I installed it. That kills everything but the channel memory.
I notice you have a swift caravan. I’m not sure about your model but the radio that is in our swift has a clip off face plate which removes the front when not in use, so there is no screen to light up. Have you checked for a button on the front that pops the front off?
As well is two words!
