Good morning fellow Caravanners 👋🏽

This month's question is about the John Guest push fit connectors.

Around the van we use the standard 12mm black connectors.

But going in to the pump is a white 12mm push fit connector BUT it has "wings" on it.

Pictures

attached.

Does anyone know why it looks like this and if it is safe to replace it with just a normal connector?

We've got a leak between the white connector, the light green insert and the blue pipe which has the jubilee clip on it. So any suggestions would be helpful.

Thank you as always, Kelly & Rob

The ones that are shown look like they're made to be easily removed, I'd remove it and see why its leaking

Thank you Paul, we've taken it apart but can't see a reason for the leak - we think perhaps it's because it wasn't a perfect fit so the husband has cut the 15mm pipe and reconnected.

The main question here though is WHY the white connector is different??

You will find that one is different as it is a non return valve to stop water draining back

When connecting you push in the pipe and then try to pull it apart to seal it.

It looks like a Whale one, similar to this. but I'm sure others will do fine.

Can I please double check: the arrow shows the direction the water will flow and those means that it can't flow the other way?

I bought a replacement but annoyingly the arrow is facing the wrong way so I don't think that water will be able to get into the pump now??

Arrow is the direction water flows.     This is the push fit valve you need
