We've got a standard blue calor 7kg gas bottle, with a clip on type regulator. When we try to take the regulator off, the gas bottle seems to be staying "open" with gas hissing out - anybody got any clues as to what might be wrong??
The cylinders are fitted with a spring loaded self closing valve, that should activate on removal of regulator/coupling - Sounds like either debris stuck in the valve preventing full closure, or the seal has become damaged.
Calor have a technical help-desk on 01926 318 497, worth a phone call.
Otherwise pop into a Calor stockist and have a word with them. You may need to disconnect the hose from the regulator to be able to take the cylinder with regulator into a stockist to demonstrate it's a cylinder fault.
I'm loath to advise trying to dislodge any debris from the valve by DIY means, you'd need protective gloves and eyewear at the very least, large volumes of escaping gas can give frost bite like injuries, not to mention risk of fire from gas etc.
Best overall solution is make it someone else's problem (Calors!) with an exchange cylinder by whatever means available to you.
