I don’t mean disinfect it I already do that with either Milton or puriclean
My adhd brain decided to take a look inside our aqua roll with the aid of a head torch 🤢 and now I don’t even want to use the water which we regularly drink from (after putting through a water filter )
I don’t know if it’s because we are a season pitch but the inside of aqua roll is disgusting I’ve read through a few posts on here and a few people are saying they don’t get dirty how ???
Can’t advise on the Aquaroll but we fill separate canisters for water that we’re drinking as water (eg by the bed for night time). Dog’s bowl gets filled from the site tap direct too.
We usea bit of Milton to clean and have never had a problem. We aren't on a seasonal pitch though. We use a filter jug for tea and coffee etc. Same at home.

when you say dirty what exactly are you seeing? could it be just limescale? what county is your seasonal pitch in, as i know a couple of areas that i definately wont drink the water from, i buy water in for them, cumbria is the worst a i always get cystitus when we go there its that bad i cant even go in a cafe for a cuppa! then there is the disgusting stuff in the water around harrogate/ripon
I'm not on a season pitch, so Aquaroll only used max 3 weeks at a time, then dry stored between trips, but NEVER had any growth or gunk in it!
I use Puriclean to sterilise system, once, maybe twice a year, and it's supposed to shift biofilm (it seems to!), so I would have thought that if used frequently and strong enough would have cleaned the Aquaroll.
Now I'm guessing you leave the Aquaroll in situ and with water in it even when not using the van. If so the sun will encourage algal growth to appear after a while. If it's in the barrel, it'll be throughout the system, transferred with the water!
Probably need to clean the barrel with strongish bleach to kill the algal growth (DO NOT PUMP THE BLEACH WATER INTO YOUR VAN WATER SYSTEM - it will damage parts! - or for that matter fit/immerse the pump!), leave bleach for a few hours to work, then flush copiously to clear bleach residue. Then use Puriclean to clean system, probably need to leave in system for some time (think 24 hours is max recommended). Again flush thoroughly.
I never drink the water from the van system, despite sterilising it, always fill a 5L container from site supply, and that's kept inside the van.
We used to have a waterhog (like an aqua roll but made by a different company) and it was so easy to clean as the opening on the top was much bigger than the one on the aquaroll so you could get your hand and whole arm inside to give it a really good clean every now and then. Unfortunately, when this waterhog split in an accident, we replaced it with an aquaroll and didn’t realise you couldn’t get your arm in until a few months later.
Now we use a good strong dose of Puriclean and leave it for 24 hours in the aquaroll. I haven’t looked inside but I am hoping this keeps it clean!
I use washing up liquid and warm/hot water, add soap, a gallon or so water or less and a hand towel then swish it around.
I do this occasionally as well as de-scaling and sterilising with Puriclean.
When I used my Aquaroll, it was to supplement the onboard fresh water tank when I was on facilities sites.
I did not drink the water coming straight out of the tank or Aquaroll, always boiled first.
Surplus from the kettle would be allowed to cool before being bottled and stored in the fridge for drinking later.
