We want to park on a site all year round and are looking for a size 18 awning that is up to the job. Can anyone with experience give any tips on what we need tolook for. I know that we will need steel poles
We have a Dorema full size which we think is around 20,years old. It is acrylic material. We have aluminium poles as it's not up all the time.
It has faded but never leaks.
I replaced the plastic pole clamps which had screw fixtures to tighten them with lever type as the screw threads wore.
It has travelled extensively and has been exposed to all sorts of weather!
Therefore I would recommend Dorema!
It is heavy in its bag but has zip out panels.
Only used on long stay summer holidays now.
We have a Kampa Rally Pro 260 for shorter trips. Poled type not air.
I believe some companies make awnings for seasonal use.

I think the thing to be mindful of with awnings on seasonal pitches is that the 'all season' awnings may have better fabrics that do not suffer with constant exposure to the sun (UV damage), but it doesn't necessarily mean they are wind proof! I've seen a few myself when touring on sites with seasonal pitches, and heard of others that have been collapsed/damaged by strong winds in the prolonged absence of owners.
Certainly every 'touring' awning I've looked at, and the two I own, warn against using in windy conditions, I would imagine all season ones would do the same.
The site we are on closes in January and no awnings can be left up. We use our Isabella porch, carbon poles, in October, November and December, easy to
take down. Then in mid February we put up our full awning a German made DWT Zelt, steel poles, woven acrylic sides, polyester roof and clip on storm straps. Had no problems with all the storms this year.
We are not considering living on the site, just visit the van for a few days every few weeks. The owner of the site told us that to live there we need to show proof of ownership of another address and must not be at the van more than 28 days.
Thanks for your comments. I can understand why your site owners don't want awnings left up, probably too much trouble going around checking them and contacting owners. In the recent storms we had I have paid much attention to the other awnings on site, one had pulled the rail that the awning slides into partly off, our air canopy movement had pushed some air out of it which was easy to put right.
We are on a 12 month site and our awning is up all year , it’s a Walker concept 280 all season /all weather awning 28mm roof poles 25mm for the rest if the frame , made from similar material to lorry curtain sides , would fully recommend
