So once the pump is put in the inlet the water is coming straight back out of the inlet, yes?
If so then check any O rings on the pump where it pushes in to the inlet, these wear after time.
If you can't find a water tank then it will probably just draw the water from an aquaroll.

Near to the hot water tank there could or should be a yellow lever to drain the water tank, this should be laid flat. Its often left upright to drain down in the winter months
