I had a Fiamma roll out awning which I used abroad and in the UK. I bought it in 2006 and it lasted until one of the knuckle type joints failed this year. I had no problem rolling out or in. If you buy a Fiamma I recommend buying a Fiamma rafter for addition support to use in more windy situations
We had a Kampa roll out awning (can’t remember the name now), we did travel with it on the awning rail for one trip but I sold it shortly afterwards. It was pretty heavy and my concerns would be raising the centre of gravity of the caravan and also what strain it could be putting on the awning rail whilst driving at 60mph, both could well be non issues
We have had roll-out awnings on several caravans and have travelled France and Spain with them attached with no problems. So much easier than carrying and erecting a separate awning. Most were fine. However, the last one we bought (all second-hand) was long and heavy. It finally beat us as, in our 70s now, we don't have the necessary wrist strength!
------------- Freedom is a light caravan and an open road.
We’ve had a Dometic sunshine air pro awning for a couple of years now and love it. Sold our full awning. We bought the optional sides too, so does stop the rain or in the sunshine just leave them off. Would highly recommend.
