Hello.
I am looking (booked and getting stuff sorted) to Holbrook to France in August. The breakdown cover for the caravan is confusing me. What do I need??

I have breakdown cover for the car. And I think that the caravan is covered while attached to the car(I will now double check....again). Do I need separate cover for caravan. I have been looking on line and not sure I can find it.

What does everyone do? Maybe I need to change the breakdown cover.....just a bit of a pain as everyone in the house is covered under one policy currently.

“The Legal Requirement: You must have a valid Car Insurance policy to tow a caravan on public roads. You should notify your insurer before setting off to confirm that towing is covered under your agreement.
“The Coverage Gap: While your car insurance covers damage to your car and protects against injuries or damage caused to others by the caravan, it typically excludes damage, fire, or theft of the caravan itself.
“Why Separate Insurance Helps: A dedicated policy covers the cost to repair or replace your caravan if it is stolen or damaged. It also protects your car's no-claims bonus if you need to make a claim on the caravan.”

OP is asking about Breakdown cover not Insurance
Most breakdown services, if motor breaks down will tow the caravan behind the Recovery vehicle. But if it is the caravan that breaks down and needs recovery ON a vehicle then that is often chargeable at owners cost, unless you are covered with such as Arrival or Mayday.

If your breakdown cover t&c’s states it will recover caravan along with car then all good although some have a length limit on the caravan ie 8mtres or whatever. Some will also attend for a caravan puncture as well as car. Ring & check to see if yours will. As for some other mechanical issue with caravan provided caravan has been serviced it shouldn’t happen so I wouldn’t worry about that.

Also be aware if you break down on a French autoroute you have to accept recovery from whoever the autoroute company provides. If that happens you pay for the recovery & keep receipt. Your own breakdown cover will reimburse the cost.

Thank you so much. I called them today and i am all sorted.

I think I just got lost in Internet misinformation....it all seems obvious now.
