I would like to warn anyone who bought a Lunar last year to:
1) Have your tyres checked for splits. Apparantly Lunar had a bad batch. They have changed them as people have found them. Why they do not have a recall as they would do in the car industy only they know. I had a masssive split in one of mine and was only driving down the M6 the week before.
2) Check your gas locker to see if it locks properly, mine looked like it was locked and wasn't , this happened to someone else and we both have Zeniths.
I have wriiten to the managing director twice regarding these issues and the many other faults I have had and I have not had a reply
We met a couple in France this summer who had had several problems with their new Lunar, including a tyre blow-out and the tyre completely disintegrated. I have heard that Lunar had a dodgy batch of Hankook tyres.
I had a Lunar LX2000 new in 1999, I kept it four years and experienced over 60 faults which were put right under the warranty, including two major leaks and the floor delaminating!
Their then marketing direct Mr Walmsley even came to my home address to inspect it. But they would not replace it. I got a free Hekki roof light and fitting for the inconvenience I had. Irony is that leaked about eight months after they fitted it!!!
In 2001 (two years after I purchased it) they wrote to say the tyres had to be changed due to splits in the sidewalls. I guess they buy "B" grade materials.
I traded the bl***y thing in and bought a new Sterling Europa in 2003. Not had a single problem with it. I was at the three counties exhibition last October, and a person was on the Fleetwood stand discussing the differences between a Fleetwood and a Lunar with a dealer rep. The dealer rep replied that he had learnt to swim in a Lunar… lol.
------------- Shall we take the awning down; in-case it rains in the morning?
Thanks for all your pre-warnings, I am collecting my new Lunar (2005 model) Quasar tomorrow (12/11) and as I am staying for the night at Preston, I will have plenty of things to check over as this is my first caravan and any faults will have to be ammended on Sunday, before I make the long trek back to Bristol.
Just one question: When the caravan is completly empty, is there any weight on the coupling, which would need to be included within the nose weight,
best regards, Martin

there is some weight there as anything forward of the axle will put a downward force on the drawbar, but this will increase by the time you get all your usuall junk and stuff in the front box i.e. gas bottle, blocks, whellies etc. in the mean time for towing it back home i sugest you take a couple of large water bottles aquarolls etc and get the nose weight up and the weather is going to be very windy and you will need all the help you can get, some of the m6 is very exposed and it is going to be side winds so take care, if they have some old batteries lying around see if they will let you have them as they can help an awful lot.
We were offered a really good deal on one with a fixed island bed, but when we tried the bed it seemed very very hard has anyone else found that with them ? not sure if they have any left now but a Local Caravan Centre was finishing selling tourers so all the stock was reduced to clear.

I managed to bring the van back to Bristol on Sunday, I had one Gas Bottle, the Spare Wheel and the Wheel Clamp as additional nose weight and the van was as steady as a rock, all the way, the children didn't complain about the fixed bunkbeds, so they must have been OK.. The only problem I have at present, is reversing the thing, but as this is my first van, then hopefully I will improve before the clutch burns out.
As for leaks, I just hope they appear before the 3 year warranty runs out .
Just one query, as I have an AKS3004 Stabiliser, can I leave the hitchlock on whilst I am towing (as stated in Towsure), or should this be removed for safety reasons,
best regards, Martin

I have had enough of the Lunar . I have had problems for 2 years now, it has at least one problem every time i have taken it out. I collect a Bailey tomorrow. Wish me luck.
PS. Beware of Robinsons Caravans of Worksop and Brimington, Chesterfield. They tried to sell me a caravan to heavy for my car. I paid a £500 deposit and they would not refund it even though they had mis-sold the caravan. In fact they wanted £900 for " loss of profit"- To add insult to injury they only guarantee caravans for 3 montht, the one I was buying was £9000 ! But they were prepared to sell me a longer one, I think it was £290! They are not a member of the National Caravan Council or subscribe to The Bailey guaratee on there used caravans. Buyer Beware
We purchased a Lunar Delta 520/2 a couple of months ago. There is an onboard water tank fitted and when we fill the tank from the external pump it is quiet but when we draw water from the taps from the internal pump it is very noisy. There is a loud knocking noise, which isn't too bad from outside the caravan but inside it is. We took the van back to the dealer to be checked out and they said "they are noisy"!!! Any suggestions what it could be or how to remedy the situation. Someone suggested it could be an air lock but we have put a few containers of water through the system and it didn't solve it.
