Hi, Has anyone any experience at putting 14 month old twins to sleep in a caravan.
We are thinking of using two bedguards on single beds to keep them in. Does anyone think this would work or not? They twins stand up when awake and I am concerned that they may fall out.

I'd make the double up, and try to get hold of an old fire guard and slot it in front of the bed down the edge of the mattresses so they can't get out, you could probably adjust it so it went the entire width of the van which would stop them messing with the kitchen too. You could also probably find a way to clip it in place. Not the smallest of things to carry I know but it would keep them in.
Hope it helps, other than that do what you were planning to do and take some extra bedding and pad the floor! I bet if they fell once they wouldn't do it again!

Many years ago, when our son was a baby/toddler, I adapted a cot side to fit between the side of the van and the side of the corner toilet/washroom.
It worked a treat, and besides sleeping in it, it acted as a safe play area too.
If you have a corner you can block off, (Fireguard, plywood, old safety gate) get some foam cut to fit it and make a cot for them in there. They`re better off at floor level.
If they can stand up they`ll be straight over a bed guard at that age. Bed guards are too low to act as safety rails when standing. They`re too young to learn not to do it.
I agree, my twins slept together until they were, no wait they still do on occasion (they'll kill me for letting on) they're nearly 14, make a little corner for them.

Have a look at motorhomes they overcome this with a type of cargo netting that is fitted on the double bed above the cab. You may have to go across to the motor home forum for your answer. I think all the other suggestions will possibly damage your van or not look right.
Just remember ay netting will have to be child-safe...that is, it must have a very small mesh. Anything a child can insert a finger into and twist the mesh tight on is a total no-no. Children have slightly less sensation in fingers and toes than adults and it`s possible for a child to seriously cut off circulation this way.
I wasn`t particularly suggesting drilling holes in the side of your van and building a riveted cage, btw. But an inventive parent can always build something. Look for one of the pressure fit gates made of child-safe mesh? Butcher down an old travel cot? Who cares what it looks like, as long as your kids are safe.
When my older 2 children were young they slept in a double at one end of the caravan. I didnt put any guard up as i thought this would encourage them to climb over, whereas they could slide off the double without hurting themselves. Some caravans have a door rather than a curtain this could also be of help.
We have booked up many trips out and pick up the van weekend after next. So if this year you see stressed adults running after new toddlers give us a wave!
Our 15 month old Princess uses a travel cot - it's huge and does the job - she goes at one end and we close off on our fixed singles. These porta cots also make a nice playpen and are big enough for two! How do you cope!!!
Whilst we don't have twins, we do have 2 children close together (2&3),we have tended to sleep one parent and one child together in the separate beds. That way the children can't roll out because we are on the outside of the bed. This hasn't caused us any problems so far.
