i feel that the way e+l has treated me is really unfair ,as when c aravan went missing they didn't wany to know!!! will post full story one here once i have calmed down a bit!!!
Insurance companies all try to evade/minimise claims by whatever means they can get away with. Our new Bordeaux was written off in a freak hailstorm. Caravan Club, new for old cover. No probs? Not so simple. We purchased, very deliberately, from a dealership with accredited workshop. CC insureres took their replacement cost from a Bailey dealer without accredited workshop and who actually carried out gas and electric work himself even though he wasn't qualified other than by experience to do so). Fitting the extra electrics as had been done on our original van would be done but without the correct certification as he wasn't qualified. Thus his prices were cheaper then the "good" dealer. We lost out to the tune of over £1000. Bailey told us that they were dealing with the problem of their naughty dealer, but that didn't help us. Still use the Caravan Club, even though we had to pay out in full for a new insurance, (we lost ten months worth due to the claim.) Read all the small print very very carefully, if they can use it to avoid paying, they will, right down to the last pernickety detail. Interestingly, we used a Cassoa storage site but it wouldn't allow you to leave the alarm system activated. where does that leave you with some insurances?

That is the same with all insurance company's, once they have paid out on a total loss your insurance has served it's purpose, and if you pay by installments they should deduct the full cost of the outstanding premium from the amount awarded. Makes sense to me.
the only time i will leave well alone is if the ombudsman find i have a valid claim withh e+l insurance!! until then i will keep fighting and let others know of the problems i have had with this company!
Ecca, totally agree. Insurance companies rely on folk giving up. Ombudsman takes time but has served us well. Publicity is one of our few comebacks, good luck!
We also have ours with E&L we will have to check the small print to see if everything is covered as a week or so ago, others on here said beware..
Will not be with them next year tho'...will shop around..
when you check your policy, double check the high value bit. 5000.00 is high value to them. when i rang to cancel my policy i said that as i wouldn't have actually been covered by their policy i thought they weren't entitled to my premiums - they refunded me!
worth a try
We got our money back too, the scary thing was the thought that the van hadn't been insured for the eight months we were with them because of an added safety device they wanted that they didn't tell us about on the phone when we took out the policy.
Just a gentle word of warning folks please remember the same laws of slander libel etc apply to the web as anywhere else I'm not saying things on here are wrong just asking you to be carefull (says he who rights anything LOL)

You took my comment out of context, I agreed with your statement and advised others to leave well alone, I didnt read in this thread you had had problems!
