I really should have found this out sooner, but wanted to ask the mother of all stupid questions:

By law, do we have to have caravan insurance?

If not and we have an accident on the road, what happens? (I'm not worried about it getting nicked as it's cheap!)

On my car insurance I am covered thrid party for any damage to other vehicles as long as the caravan is attached to the car and cover for the damage to the caravan is covered on the van insurance.

I have wondered what would happen if the caravan become unattached and damaged another vehicle?

Your car insurance will cover it .But I wouldn't recommend going without caravan insurance as they get stolen quite frequently
