This may sound daft but what purpose does the little ball type thingy (that you fit where the ball of the tow bar would go) have.
I have just fitted my new saracen hitch lock and was wondering why and how do you remove it......it seemed tight to remove
Thanx in advance
I didnt get instructions!!

I think It's to help stop a would be thief pulling your van on to a low loader with the hitch.

Are you talking about the red ball that fits into an AlKo hitch? If so you have to pull up the locking handle on the hitch to release it. If its not that I am sorry I can't help.

Marky-As far as I am aware, the purpose of the small red ball is to stop a "would-be" thief dropping your hitch onto his own vehicle which could be already fitted with a "smaller" diameter ball, (even with a hitch-lock fitted to "your" 'van).
Apparently thieves have discovered ways to remove this type of ball without too much difficulty, and it's recommended to use a proper metal ball (around £20) instead.-

I've got one of these on my trailer, its called a jok lok, basically you use an allen key to screw the ball in tight to the hitch, then put a key lock over it, but be careful on ALKO hitches as it may knacker the friction pads.
