Wonder if anyone out there could help. Our caravan has the roller blinds that are a sealed unit. They go up and down in a channel either side of the window.
The major problem with these blinds are they bunch up/stick and crease.
I was thinking about unscrewing the unit and ironing them to see if this makes them any better.
The wife suggested replacing the sealed units with roller blinds.
Is there anybody out there who's fitted roller blinds to their caravan? Any advice will be deeply appreciated.
Hi Corni, If you fitted roller blinds I would guess that they would 'bow' in the middle as they were pulled down, this is probably why the originals are fitted in the channels, have you tried retensioning the springs in the rollers?.There should be something in a past topic somewhere on here!
Don't know about ironing them but if they are the casette type, you should be able to unscrew them from the wall and take them apart. I had a similar problem and found that there was a plastic chord holding the blind in the roller that had worked it's way out of it's slot and had got a bit tangled up in the blind preventing it from working properly.
Another idea is to try tensioning them up a bit - again, if it is the cassette type, there should be a screwdriver slot to one side which allows tensioning.
I have recently fitted some 'Elan' secondhand blinds to my van. I stripped all of them down completely and renovated the material and netting. I also serivced the roller springs by taking them out and oiling and retensioning them. I found the right tension required is about 8-10 turns.
It is important when you screw them up to the van wall that you get the legs paralel. If you don't get this right you could experience the problem you are getting.
Whatever you do, don't iron the blinds or netting, they will melt and look worse than before. I was lucky, the guy who sold me them also gave me a load of spare bits including extra material which I cut to size and attached to the rollers. It is even possible to join two bits together as I did by overlapping the pieces and stitching the join using a zig-zag setting on the sewing machine - a very professional finish I must confess.
Any help you need, don't hesitate to drop me a line.
