Please help! We have recently bought a bailey ranger 550/6 and a ventura atlantic awning size 975. We are on a permanent pitch and have been advised to get an awning tie down kit, but are completely baffled by trying to work out which size we need. Our awning seems massive and most tie down kits seem to measure 6metres. Does anyone know if this will fit? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Nix

Welcome to UKCS

We have a Ranger 500/5 with a 930cm Awning and we use one of these from Towsure.

There must be at least 3 metres left over when its fitted, so I would think it will fit yours.

HTH

Hi Paul and Ange,

Thanks for your help, I had been looking at the towsure 7.5 mtre kit so that does help. Also nice to know I'm not the only caravan geek up at this time of night!

Hi,

I would recommend using dog securing "corkscrews" rather then the pegs provided. Towsure sell these also - Sorry but I cant remember the exact name for them

We had £3000 worth of damage when our awning went adrift in high winds, despite the tie down kit, it just ripped the large steel pegs supplied with the tie down kit completely out of the ground. Admittedly it was on a site with very sandy ground as we were almost on the beach.

The dog kits are only about £3 each and an extra level of security again!!!!

Thanks MattyG - Can they be used for securing troublesome offspring as well?!!!! They look ideal for Cornish summer weather, I will get some of those.

I never fancied using a tie down kit as I had heard rumours of them bending and twisting your poles but for the sake of under £8 I bought the Towsure one last year and threw it in the back of the car. A couple of weeks ago we were in the Pennines on a really windy site and I got it out, best bit of kit I have bought in years, I am now converted and will use it all the time. I like the idea of the corkscrews mattyg, I will get some of those on my next visit.

Mike

I use the ratchet straps on the awning and caravanstore.

They are quite cheap and easy to tension
