I have seen a few people now that have just a strip of beading (the bit that threads through the rail on the awning) threaded through the Off Side awning rail.

Not wanting to sound too stupid in RL I have never had the bottle to ask them, but, whats it all about?

Believe it or not.....an awning!

Yep, you can actually have awnings both/either side! Thus tripling your living area....or just somewhere to bung the Mother-in-law

Thanks for the reply, but please rad the original post again.

I am well aware you can fit an awning bith sides (we have), but why the strip of beading?

Well, the only thing I could think of is to maybe help pull an awing or sun canopy through? Can't think why else. Hopefully someone who has done this will fill us in.

Kevin.

Woops! Gotta get meself off to Tesco for their BOGOF on the specs

Not got me reading 'ead on today. Mind you, ya gotta admit, it'd be a good place for the mother-in-law eh?

But on a serious note, do you find that the added weight of a second awning is ok when you're fully laden? Hubby was so worried about the weight of our new van last year that we even forked out for the aluminium awning frame! This......was a first! Until then, it's always been me concerned about trying to cut down on weight....for the towing...not so much me body....although, now????

And btw....me being me....I'd just ask next time I saw the same beading. Most peeps are quite chuffed to spread their knowledge, especially if it's for something really clever and they think they've invented it Really got me wondering now.......

One is a full size awning, the other is a panorama xl so weight isn't really an issue.

Only done it once to keep the dogs in when we were at a meet and expected lots of peeps to be in and out of the big awning all evening.

Now have to be honest that I hadn't even thought about the Panorama jobbies. They do look fairly light. Won't mention it to hubby though, coz it'd just be somewhere else to fill with toot

PS: just had a squiz on your gallery and that porch awning does look quite handy in your middle piccy. Would be great if we were able to actually get away just for weekends or the few odd days....sadly...that aint likely to happen!

I think people thread the beading in to keep the rain off the side of the van....thus stopping the black streaks down the side

I agree as above, stops all the collected muck on the roof spoiling the side "apparently"

as said it keeps the rail clean, plus it stops the black streaks running down the side of the van, like a gutter if you will.
