ok i have just bough a citroen c8 to pull my caravan and my ever changing family requirements does anyone else use one of these for towing a caravan and if so what do you think of them for towing?
Hi, a freind of ours in Bristol had one (company car) and he said it was brilliant. You didn't know that the van was there. Hope you get some other points of view about the car. I would love one personally but cannot afford one. Good luck, Gary
Well we now got the car it seems fine drives nice loaded with a few butons which im still trying to work out just need to get a towbar fitted b4 next thursday....going to th Inside Park will post to let you know how it tows.
We don't have a C8 but we do have a Peugeot 807 2ltr petrol, and if memory serves the C8 + 807 are pretty much the same car bar the badges.
Anyway, FWIW the 807 tows ok, wobbles a bit with our Swift Challenger 530, but the real downer is fuel consumption is very bad - can get down to 9 mpg! Struggles on hills too, especailly standing starts of course. Pulling the van on wet grass too is always a problem for the car (combination of front wheel drive and lower traction with the van on the back) as it would often get wheels spinning and stuck.
So IMHO, for moving people it can't be beaten, but for towing not so good and always vulnerable on site when the grass is wet.
So we now use the 807 for just journeys (can't beat it for that) and bought a cheap(ish) 10 year old Shogun 3Ltr V6 purely for towing. Now all those issues (including mpg) really are a thing of the past.

as promised.....i can only say it towed wicked no going through the box no burning smell from the clutch and no moaning from the kids why we going so slow best part was it was comfy for me as well air con worked great and didnt seem to impact to much on the fuel economy cardiff to blandford on £15 diesel...reasonably happy with that.
definitely impressed and can only say superb car to tow with kids had all the room they needed missus fell asleep and didnt wake up with sore neck and the doors didnt fly open unexpectedly as i heard from a mate of mine who works at citroen.
would defo recomend this as a tow car to anyone.
only downside some .''.;'../;' keyed the doors the night before i left .review for inside park will be posted soon
just a quick question, whats the boot space like with all 7 seats up, im looking for a replacement for my motor, but a lot of the 7 seaters have a measly boot if you are using the seats
We just got rid of our 2 l diesel C8 which was a nightmare. It could not tow itself let alone the caravan. They are blighted with a power problem that the garage can never pin down as nothing comes up on their diagnostics. Spoke to a guy in France who had similar problems. I mean really bad by the way not poor - diabolical!
Now have returned from France having used my new Kia Sorento. I thought I had died and gone to heaven it was so good. Glad to hear yours is OK.
I tow my Sterling Moonstone with a C8 excelent combination (see my profile) I had a Picasso SX 2lt Deisel before that, but when I got the C8 I was well aware that I was sacrficing economy for Luxury, our last run was down to Shrewsbury lto a little site at "Much Wenlock" it was beautiful the unit was as steady as a rock, Car performed well and the consumption averaged out at aprox 30/35 gallon ( Im not a heavy footed driver) best of luck Chris
Have you thought about a Toyota Estima in the Emina or Lucida guise? (They're an import and the UK equivalent is a Previa). Come in 7 or 8 seat variants, plenty of boot space, 2wd or 4wd, 2.2 turbo diesel or 2.4 petrol. The equipment list is endless coming with all sorts of toys too. Try this link for some good prices from a reputable dealer who gives you ALL the paperwork (some don't so you don't know what you'll be paying for) http://www.tapajencars.co.uk. You may care to go here for more info on the Estima range http://www.estimaownersclub.org/community/index.php

We've had 7 seater espaces for 16 years & have recently bought our 5th, it's a 3.0Dci Grand Espace initiale. The space behind the third row of seas is good enough to put a weeks shopping there if you use all 7 seats. We only use 6 & normally leave the middle seat, iddle row out unless Julie is shoping when she'll move the rear seat up into the middle row & have loads of space at the back. As far as the car is concerned, we love it, it has all the toys & the service we've had from our local renault dealers has always been superb so we're on the money there.
If, on the other hand you're really after loads of space in the back. Go & have a look at the Kia Sedona, I couldn't believe the amount of room behind the third row of seats in them. To be honest, if we hadn't shook hands on the deal to buy the espace we've just had, I'd have had a Kia to try, I know a number of people who tow with them & I'm reliably informed that they tow beautifully. The dealership for Kia seem to be really pushing the Sedona at present too, I think they've just launched a new model & possibly have a stock of the older ones to shift.
The only point I'd keep in mnd is that while I know a good espace will always sell I know nothing about the 2nd hand market for the Kia, that having been said, one chap I know is on his third & another on his second Kia.
