As some of you know I'm new to caravans, I'm doing well, towed successfully several times, managed to fix the old thing up with electrics etc. But what I really want to do is paint the outside and inside, I know what I want in my head and whilst travelling back from Wells last week I saw another caravan that had been painted and looked fantastic, my problem is I want to show my husband what it can look like so he will help me, I'm not getting any thinner at the mo and need him to do the roof etc.
Does anyone know what I'm going on about and if so do you know where I can find pictures for him to look at, I've done a google search but have yet to come up with anything.

If you can't be a good example -- then you'll just have to be a horrible warning.
Finding pictures of painted caravans on the net that resemble the pictures you have in your head of how you would like your caravan to look may not be easy to come across, It might be easier to sit down and do a drawing/sketch of how you want it to turn out.
We also considered painting our last caravan which was old, faded and had several scratches and scuffs, but when we looked into the price of the paints and primers needed to do the job so that it looked half decent we gave up on the idea as it worked out more than the caravan was worth! - If only it were as simple as nipping to B&Q, and buying a couple of tins of gloss and a pack of brushes lol.
erm well we sort of did!!!! although ours isnt in some hippy designs or anything we did paint ours with magnolia silk emulsion!!! yes you hear me right - emulsion, it then a couple of days later did a thunderstorm on us and everything was perfectly fine, and if after a couple of months it starts looking tatty well just redo it!!! we gave the van a damm good wash to get any grease and stuff off and its worked.

You could get some gloss from b+q thin it with unleaded petrol and spray it. You will need to pick a sunny day with no wind or it could end up covered in bits. Gloss takes a long time to dry and gts quite sticky. Flys seem to love sitting on tacky paint too.
Interested in this post because our caravan is needing a wee bit of a touch-up.
It's our first van andwe bought it a couple of months ago. It was sitting in someone's garden unused-the guy was selling as moving abroad. We've sorted the inside (new carpets etc) but the outside had a few pinholes near the door where water obviously dripping in. Patched the wee holes up with a filling compound (forget the name Iso something) but now I need to paint them.
I don't fancy spraying as there are only a few patches and I guess spraying is quite messy. Possibly thinking just get a colour match as close as poss from Halfords and trying to apply, but if not, what type of paint would do the job? Hammerite? Do you need to prime first?

I ought not to laugh....can't resist it.
Thin with petrol and spray it!!!
Can you spot the flaw in this...I know you will say that cellulose thinners are more volatile than unleaded but I imagine a sort of cartoon character looking at a blackened blown up van with just two inches of the hose on his spray gun remaining. and his shoes still smouldering.
If we loose sleep at towing at 86% I sure this is a big no no!

Yes it does need priming, if not, the paint will be a dull matt and will look awful, i learned that on my first car!
to get it right, use a car primer, not the high build stuff, just the regular type, leave to dry for an hour or so, then paint, spray gives the best finish, but may be hard to find a match, even a paint on type willbe noticable, personally if there are no decals etc on the door i would be tempted to paint the lot, the mis-matched paints wont be as noticable with the frame to space the two
