I have no idea why you would be told that. Can you tell us exactly who told you what so that we can try and make some sense of it. Only thought that springs to mind is in Spain do caravans have their own licence plate number like in France? Or is it like in the UK where the van simply displays the car plate?
If it is the first case then I suggest you pick up your van with a spare number plate (same as car) then when you return to Spain (where I presume you live) then register the caravan there. I know that you will have to have it inspected etc.
Good luck
Mike

Not exactly sure what you mean, but if you intend buying a caravan in the UK, then tow it in Spain with a Spanish registered vehicle, and Spain is like France where caravan's have their own registration, then you could have big problems.

We have friends who moved from the UK, with their British caravan, to France where they then bought a French registered car.  They were soon stopped by the gendarmerie and the outcome was that the cheapest and almost only option was to put their caravan on a site and use it as a static.  The big problem was getting the caravan registered because it didn't have 'type approval' in France.

I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure!
