I have a 1 year old Baily Ranger 510/4. I have a problem with the gas becasue I beleive the regulator is faulty. I have spoken with my suppling dealer as well as a few others, none of which have them in stock. Does anyone know were I can get a Fixed Truma regulator??
If you have a quick search on gas and regulator problems there are a few treads on this subject, I seem to remember something about a possible recall on the pigtais used to connect from your bottle to the regulator, somthing to do with the gas reacting with the rubber lining of the pigtails and causing an oily substance to be deposited in the regulator blocking it.
hi,thanks for the reply.no they will not come back because they do not know the full cause of the oils in the gas (if thats the cause) that is blocking the regulator.trama are replacing the regulator free of charge, they have no legal obligation to do this.there is a write up in the CCC magazine this month.it did not happen when the regulators were not fitted to the bulkhead and on top of the bottles.they are now fitting them higher with an elbow joint.we will see...........

Yes Michael, ive heard that they've come up with a possible answer to the problem, they are now saying that the oily substance, if it occurred in the past, would run back into the bottle with the old regulator mounted on top of the bottle, but now that the regulator is only half way up the bottle its running & settling in it, slowly building up until it blocks it, so now they are mounting it higher on the bulkhead in an attempt to cure it.
As you say "we will see".
Some thoughts are, that the oil is in the gas already, some, that its a reaction with the rubber pigtail, i dont know which it is.

dionea imho,as an auto engineer (retired) who has helped to built systems for motor cars for many years.i would be looking towards the condensation aspect as well (condensation in the pipe ) this mixed with any impurities such as plasticizer from the pipe could form into an oily substance.if you have every stripped down and seen the air pipes on an engine, these contain oils formed by the fumes from the engine,"we will see".in time they will find the answer.there is a good article up in caravan magazine june 2006 page 80.also as you say the oil could be in the gas.if this is so it must have always been there unless they have changed the formula.gets off soap box.

I have an 18 month old Olympus 504 and the Truma
regulator packed up. Truma blame calor for the regulators failure and Calor
blame Truma. Any regulator replacement will not be covered by any warranty. The
caravan producers are aware of the problem but chose to ignore it, and not
offer a replacement. I had my regulator replaced and was told pay £50 for a
truma regulator which can fail in 6 months and no warranty or have a Cavalier
regulator fitted which comes with a 5 year guarantee. How much??? £20. That's a no brainer.
I was told that Bailey are planning to change from the Truma regulators...... only 7 years late
Ours packed up 2 days into our holiday at Scarborough, luckily there was a mobile caravan engineer just coming onto the site to attend to someone behind me so he did my regulator as well, £47 for the part and £20 to fit and pressure check the system. While talking to him he said they can pack up anytime and there was someone in Bridlington making a different regulator that cost about £25 and with a no quibble guarantee. The sooner all caravan makers change from Truma the better, they might do something about it then.

The problem is not the regulators but the oil in the gas. As Truma regs use a system that tends to trap the oil in the regulator it at least stops the oil from getting to the internal pipework and appliances in the caravan. I think I would rather change a reg than I would change pipework and appliances. However to get over the problem without waiting for Calor to supply gas without oil in it Truma developed a filter that fits upstream of the reg and utilises replaceable filter cartridges. I think they came out earlier this year.

Birder99 took the words out of my mouth, that tosh about leaching from hoses was disproved years ago and the reason Truma won't, since it became clear, replace regs under warranty.
Funnily enough, I've had a spate this year of blocked Carver gas burner modules, all caused by 'oil' from the gas bottle...of course, all connected too pre 'Truma' bottle mounted regulators?!
Ours lasted 8 months from new even though I fitted it with a stainless steel pigtail
Truma will not honour any warrenty One minute fine next that will be £47 sir they did however fit it for free...and I got another stainless steel pigtail a gaslow this time and so far all has been well this year (around 120 nights so far)
I have twin calor lite cylinders with twin stainless steel hoses and at the service this year (3rd year) needed the regulator replacing and the fridge burner (or was it the fire? can't remember which but it was one!) draining of oil and cleaning.
