Hi John!    We know how you (and OH ) feel.   We are retiring in about 12 months time and, after a l..o..n..g ( 3 months )  holiday to visit all OH's family in Norway,  our first task is to clear out the loft and the garage!!!

A wee while ago our daughter (21) said to me........."Mum, please don't die soon, I don't want to be left to clear out the loft"!!!!!!!!!

OH was 64 yesterday and I am 57, so hopefully we have a while left yet!!!!!

Hi Michael

It should be possible to fit  the socket in the space below the mains inlet and if the trailing lead type is used then the socket will be outside the box.

That is assuming the awning is up of course

I didn't intend wiring it up so that I got sparks from it. Unless the battery ore charger is faulty, there should be no problem with a spark in any case, The battery compartment is vented so hydrogen cannot build up in there any way. Furthermore, the door would have to be open to get to the socket, so I really do not consider there being a problem.

I would like an external socket fited to my Provence and although I know I could do the job myself, I have so far held off from doing so as I do not know if it would invalidate my Bailey body warranty against damp generally if a hole is cut into the van by other than an authorised Bailey dealer, does anyone know?

It should only invalidate it at the point where you cut it out and if you use the mastic tape it won't leak.

You will be able to keep an eye on it and at the first sign of leakage(unlikely) you could reseal.

I always make a cardboard template that covers a large area to avoid damaging the van side.

Drill a hole at each corner and I use a pad saw as a jigsaw can run away with you in the thin aluminium side

I used an extension straight into blue plug ,that goes into socket onsite,then i tape the two cables together every couple of feet ,to keep it neat, for about 10 feet ,then I put a blue socket on the other end ,( the one with the closeable flap)and I carry a double socket (rubber) with a small tail ans a blue male end to put into socket in the awning.

So I have two cables from the campsite. outlet ,one goes into the van and the other into the awning

You are dependant on the site electrics for safety then.

If it was wired into the van electrics after the "fuses" you would have the benefit of the MCB and RCD fitted to the van
