Hi.......it seems that quite a few people are having awning problems, but mine seems to be connected with the Daystar's awning rail having a raised section from the door to the back end.

Water pools and won't run off, and this unwanted weight has already resulted in bent poles and other damage.

As there are only the 3 main poles would it do any good to fit a couple of extra "rafter" poles in an attempt to keep the fabric tight?

All or any advice much appreciated.

Hi,

What make and size of awning are you using?  Our 950cm awning has five roof rafters - and we don't get any ponding, as the roof is very taught.  Are you also certain that your awning is the correct size for your van?

Hi....thanks for the superfast reply.      It's an 870cm awning but only has the 3 rafters......that's what made me wonder about getting another 2.     Do you think that I'm on the right lines?

Best wishes.......Ian.

Ian - my previous van was an 1991 Award Nightstar with the "raised" back bit.  Hopeless description but I think you know what I mean.  The awning was a 925 and had 5 roof poles.  It never ponded and nor did we have damaged poles.  So your theory may be right.

Hi Ian

We have a Tristar with the same stoopid roof - seemed like a good idea until we put up an awning!

Anyway, still be relatively new to caravanning, when we put up our shiny new Dorema Cardinal awning - size 10, with 3 poles - we looked around to see how others had set up theirs'.  Everyone seemed to have the poles sloping down from the caravan to the front of the awning but we were going to have to duck to get in and out if we did the same! [:V:]

We didn't fancy doing that so ours sloped up the way instead - rising from the caravan.  We had some very heavy and prolonged rain and, whilst there was a little pooling, it didn't stay long and soon ran off of its own accord.  [:o)]  Well, except for the overhang above the door we chose to use - that collected a little but only cleared if the wind blew or we tried to go in or out of the door - you only make that mistake once!!

Good luck with yours!

Thanks for all the replies so far.......at least it helps to know that I'm not alone in having this problem.

BTW......I must be going senile.....it's a Sunstar that I have and not a Daystar that I've been prattling on about.

Will now attempt to find another 2 rafter poles and wait for a calm day before trying for another erection!        Happy days!
