I have a Diahatsu Fourtrak 2.8 and a Compass Vantage 14' caravan. Of course this car doesnt know it has it on the back in any situation. The trouble is that as I'm about to retire I can't live with the fuel consumption (5 miles to the litre!)

My wife's car is a 1998 Nissan Primera 2litre turbo diesel, returning twice that.

Has any one had experiece of the Nissan as a tow car?

I am just in the throws of buying a 2 litre petrol Primera and I understand from the garage that they sell a lot of them as tow cars. I think the diesels are especially good because of the torque. Our van is sited so I am not buying for that purpose particularly but may do so in the future.

Have you gone to whattowcar.com and checked it out against the weight of your van?

I have towed with both a 1995 and 1999 petrol engined Primera with no problems. As Snowy 747 says I would think that the diesel engined vehicle would make a better tow car but do check out the weights.

I tow with a Nissan primera 2.0 turbo diesel 51 reg and tow a 12ft van I have had no problem what so ever and with five in the car went to Cornwall and there are some decent hills there. Fuel was very good,

Hi, we tow with a nissan primera sport 2 ltr petrol and find we have no problems at all towing our 4 berth coachman mirage up hill and down no problems.
