Hi all, I wondered if i may have some direction, I have just purchased my first van, and I noticed it has a built in alarm system, but the previous owner had never used it, and so has no code etc, what I would like to know is, how can i obtain a code? and is there a separate battery to power this system, as I cant get it to work.
Our last van was a Corniche and we had the same problem. I think we rang Swift and got a number to reset the alarm to its original factory settings . Then set your own code. Ours also had a flat battery. There is a special mains charger a bit like a mobile phone. The battery unit was under the nearside front bunk. There is a test to see how many months charge is left inthe battery (which looks nothing like a battery and costs a fortune to replace) I think the system was made by a company in Hull -ours had there phone number on the "battery" unit and they also gave us advice.
Hi,when we bought our van earlier this year I had the same problem. Do you have a key-pad in the entrance area of the van and has it got Plug-In-Systems printed on it? On mine I had to buy a new alarm battery about £8.00 from an alarm company and fit it into the main unit as the old one was duff, it then worked to the makers code to which I then entered my own code and all works well. If yours is the same system I cane send you a copy of instructions and makers code and advice on how to fit a new battery if you require it. What year is your van
Mine was under the nearside front seat(although the handbook said it was in the other side). It was near to the side of the unit on which the TV stands. I could put the mains plug in near TV and thread it down the side of the wooden unit , under the seat cushion to the battery unit with a bit of the lead to spare. The bit that fits into the batteryunit is a bit like the phone end of a mobile phone charger. It looks nothing like a battery more like some form of small transformer. It has a small female socket tucked away in a difficult to see position.
Having said all that my Corniche was a 1998 so it could be different. I found Swift unhelpful at the time but even British caravan makers may have improved since then.
My van is a 1996 Avondale Mayfly and the alarm is a IDM-1, the main unit in my van is under one of the shelves in a cupboard, I had to take out a few screws and unplug and unscrew the main unit, drill out about 4/5 pop rivets and then another two to remove the dud battery I think it was a 12v - 1.2 mA it was `nt such a hard job to do but well worth it to have my alarm working again
Hmmm!! I unscrewed a black box, unplugged two connectors removed box, drilled out rivets and removed cover to find a couple of diods or simular fixed to a strip of alloy plate, with a spring under one end???
That sounds like the Tilt Sensor, the main alarm box will also contain the siren as well as the battery, have a look under the floor of the van for a 2inch (approx.) hole where thsound will come out, may well be tucked in the hollow side of the channel section of the chassis, the main alarm box will be above it. My tilt sensor was under the front left seat next to the leisure battery/charger box
