Ive towed our dirty great van around without a stabalizer for the past two years but now we have bought a newer van dh would like to fit the stabaliser that comes with it - we have the plate for the back of the car but just how easy is it to fit?  Would it be better to get someone to do it for us as I dont want to loose the tow bar mid journey!

Thanks

Buffy

If you intend fitting the bracket between your Tow bar & Tow Ball to carry the stabiliser, you'll need the longer blots as has already been said, you'd be well advised to replace the two locking washers as well, this should ensure a secure job. The nuts may well have a set torque nowadays, I know last time I changed one from one car to another the bolts were done up really tight & I was lucky to find a spanner to fit them.

It just might be worth asking your caravan workshop how much they'd charge to fit this bracket for you. Obtain a receipt showing what the charge was for & they'll have to make sure it's done to specification. Probably cheaper than buying the right size spanners if you haven't got them already.
