could do i suppose although i used that method fot yrs and never had them depends where you live maybe ?i dunno or maybe they were not rice liking mice i know it's not feasable with a caravan the best thing i do nowadays is use my motorhome regular and my van is not new 1984 coachbuilt it has had a bit of damp over the yrs but by and by it's ok cheers m8 chat soon andy....

I have the advantage of having my van in my side driveway, but I still close it down, it has a major clean out 1st, then the water is emptied out, also making sure the loo is emptied of all water as well, I bring the cushions indoors, as for the seats and backs, I stand them up in the centre of the van, then I leave the fridge door open, the last thing I do is take the wheels off, and stand the van on axle stands, caravan recommend you do this so your tyres are not left in the same position all winter. Hope this helps a bit.
This is our first winter as well. I put 2 of those DRYBAGS in in October and after 6 weeks they had absorbed alot of moisture. I have re activated them in the oven. I was really impressed with them
Also put in some of the crystals today just for comparison.
I noticed in C and C mag that somebody reccommends using lamiate floor insulkation to keep warm. Has anybody tried this as insulkatuion in their caravan. I was cold last week when we had frost- never camped so late in year wuth tent so all thois is new for me.
I leave a small low wattage panel heater on through night when we camp in winter. It just takes the chill off the air. We had our double sleeping bags and a quilt last week and ended up sleeping on top of the quilt as it was so warm and my partner knocked off the heater .

Hi everyone , We are going out in ours this winter , this week in fact and we have found a way to stop our water tank freezing up , or at least we will have when we test it out. we went to BQ and bought a small and a medium cold water tank jackets , these are black and padded, very thick. cost under a tenner for both . we made these into an extra thick jacket for our water bottle , cut a circle out of the small one a bit bigger than the bottle, then useing duck tape , tape another long piece around to fit the bottle . then this should be like a bag stand the bottle in this and then make another cirle for the top cutting out a smaller circle for the pipe to go through . also use some lenths of the lagging to wrap round the water pipe . anyone else any ideas in case this doesnt work? and can the water bottle actually freeze up?.
jdippy2,job well done for the aquaroll,you will find as we did that if its really cold the pump can freeze up at the point where it enters the caravan,we took ours in each night last march in frost conditions,also the waste pipes can freeze up and its a pig to un-freeze.make sure the wasted pipes are empty each night.fill a bottle with clean water for teeth/handwash/toilet/kettle.ect.odd times the site tap can freeze up leaving you with no water.a few weeks ago we got to moffat and all the site had no water and the toilets were closed due to a main burst nearby.

We went out in the van for new year and suprising everything was ok from the frost a few weeks ago. the site we went to though had no outdoor wash fecility as they had had a burst main . but i do all my washing up in the caravan anyway so i wasnt bothered by this.
this is our first winter using our caravan, we left it in storage last year. one tip we have been given when using the caravan in the winter months is to change gas bottle from blue to red as blue freezes up, but red doesn't. Also taken a lot of other tips on board that i have read from this thread . If it doesn't snow too bad we will be going away in 3 weeks!
hi we also use van during winter, but when it is cold and have the blow heating on, make sure the cupboard vents are not covered(the little slits in the underside of the lockers ) if the cupboards are full of stuff, as the caravan is nice and warm the cupboards are closed you find the back of the cupboards have condensation or just a bit damp.as no warm air is getting to them and clothes or anything else in there gets a little wet!!(experience)!!! we find we leave the locker doors open as well during the winter and just use the main wardrobe for clothes( the heater is underneath the base of the wardrobe acts as a airing cupboard as well!!!! Still we love it in the winter in the van, But one bug bare we have with some of the winter sites(htere is one in nottingham! the hard standings are not wide enough, just a little wider and life would be so much better ,trying to site a van on the standing and leaving enough gap to sqeeze out so you don't walk ion the mud!! cheltenham have a wonderful site and ahve made extensjions and it was so much easier, Just wish these winter sites would take note they would have a lot more visitors if just a bit more thought on there hardstandings,

I went down to check on my van on Sunday. She's looking great. I brought all my upholstery home (slight overkill, but she was brand new in October and I was paranoid about damp), we put cardboard against all the windows and the top rooflights. It was still there (bit bent from the sun), the bowls of salt were all full of water and the kitty litter didn't look any different (don't have a cat - is it supposed to swell up or something?). Only slight bit of green was on the inside of the door - I obviously didn't clean it properly before shutting it up.
I put more salt in it, shut her up, roll on 17th March!!!
I do, however, need a good size bucketful of Bobby Dazzler though - she's suffering from the dreaded black streaks!!
I think I'm gonna get me one of those new Compactalite awnings when thie UKCS shop starts selling them, they look great!
