Poor Purplehat! You do seem to have had some dreadful luck. We saw hailstones the size of golf balls in France this summer so I know what you mean about hail storms but we had the tent so no harm done and my car was parked in the shelter of a chalet at the time not next to the tent so we got off lightly.
Hope you get sorted soon. BTW we have done the same as you and sold up to look after my parents! Their health is improving though, not deterioriating, so I obviously have the arsenic proportions wrong in their evening cuppas! Only kidding.
The 465 is a nice design. Its a terrifci, roomy and practical layout, and Hymer's are very well built. I owuldnt have anything else.
Alas I couldnt tow more than 1500kgs with my car, so I went for the Hymer Living 465 - not the Nova 465. It has the same layout and PUAL system, same build standards, just a bit lighter. As soon as I tried that large sprung bed I knew there was no other van for me!
Im delighted with it, its well made, looks good and works well. It also draws some admiring glances when I pull up on site in its silver livery. (see gallery)
Silver you say? Well yes, I bought mine direct from CaravanStyle in Oirschot, the Netherlands. I got exactly the spec I wanted, and it cost me £10,500 compared to £12,500 from Lowdhams.
All the best,
Geoff

------------- Veni Vidi Velcro.... I came, I saw, I stuck around!
Take a look at the brochure Ali, the Nova S models are ultra-luxurious! I have just been reading the 2007 brochure (in Danish!) and they are all lovely!
Well, it's not that different from Norwegian when written down (although the spoken stuff is!) and as OH is Norwegian I have picked up a fair bit over the last 37 years! If I come across something unknown then it is often possible to work it out from the rest of the sentence. Swedish is similar too.
I was only reading it in Danish as they didn't seem to have a 2007 edition in English.
Not yet, but it will probably be the XC90. The van we hope to leave for at least a year, maybe two, until DD is earning and we can sort out our finances!
The fabulous new Nova S models are too wide to be UK legal to tow with a normal car.
- and from our experience, even if you could in theory tow a Hymer by keeping its potentially huge payload down very close to its MIRO, most of the Hymers require a tow vehicle which can cope with 100kg on the towball. That really means you are going to need a 4x4.
- As mentioned on previous posts, we've spent much of this year anticipating the purchase of a Hymer, only to conclude that we can't do it with either our current car or any car that we could choose within Mr Ulti-mates' co car arrangement.
I bought my Hymer secondhand privatly and the previous owner had a Mondeo estate. At the time we had a volvo saloon 2.3 petrol and although we went to Scotland with it we felt that it was too much for the car. As we planned to go to Spain in Jan. 2006 we decided to buy a 4*4 Toyota Surf. Since then we have been to Italy May, Germany Sept and we really like the combination that we have.
